Queen Scallop consultation

The Isle of Man is once again taking part in a consultation regarding the queen scallop fishery in waters around the British Isles.

Marine Scotland will be leading the research, which will take into account several fisheries around Northern Ireland, the west of Scotland and the Irish Sea.

More and more boats are fishing for queen scallops with larger catches being landed although scientific work indicates that stocks are declining.

The consultation will ask for the public’s views on a closed season for queen scallop fishing, limits on the number of and an increased minimum size landing size.

Further information and the consultation documents can be found on the Isle of Man Government’s website.
